Éadaoin joined McCann Dublin in October having previously worked across digital publishing, television and radio. The leap from journalism to agency seemed like a natural progression as she continued to follow her passion for social media, joining the team as Social Media Content Manager. Here, Éadaoin gives an insight into her way of working…
It started as early as fifteen years old, I picked up a prospectus at a careers fair and found myself drawn to Communications in DCU. Low and behold, four years later there I was sitting in a media lecture of that very course, eager to learn.
My media journey from that point has been pretty interesting with many eggs in many baskets. After setting up an Irish-language YouTube Channel and being spotted by TG4, I presented a 52-episode kids show in my second year of college. I have also dipped my toe in the radio world as well as working as a journalist, a videographer and leading the social media channels of Ireland’s largest online digital publisher, Lovin Dublin – this is where I really found my feet.
I began to live and breath social media, soaking up as much as I could. My passion for this work continued into my personal life as I built my own social channels, with my Instagram account now having over 19k followers.
Social media is my jam. I ensure content is created with a mobile-first world in mind and creative ideas are as memorable as they are unique.
I’m obsessed with online trends, algorithms, hashtags and engagements. My role in McCann seemed the perfect fit as it focuses on delivering unrivalled social media campaigns with creative and bold ideas that are ahead of the trends.
In the world we live in, I am constantly puzzled when social media is an after-thought and not a priority, when that is the most effective way to tap into a niche, engaged and valuable audience. That is one thing that I admired about McCann; social is not just repurposing content from other strands of a campaign, it’s coming up with brand new ways of telling our clients’ story.
I love the world of social media because it’s ever-changing and every day brings a new challenge. I’m always on the hunt for the “next best thing” in terms of online communication.
No day is the same. No project is the same. No social channel is the same. I like a challenge and that’s exactly what this industry is.
